What Are Exosomes?

Exosomes are minuscule vesicles that cells naturally release into the bloodstream. These tiny packages carry surface proteins that function like molecular fingerprints, revealing information about the cells that produced them.

The surface proteins of exosomes can indicate whether cancer is present and how the disease might behave inside the body.


The Screening Innovation

The technique, developed by an engineering team and announced in October 2021, targets these exosome surfaces specifically. Traditional diagnostic approaches often rely on invasive biopsies or require lengthy laboratory processing before yielding results.

This new screening method analyzes exosomal protein patterns directly, aiming to deliver diagnostic information more quickly and with less patient discomfort.
