New Model Tackles Migration Root Causes
A novel approach aims to build prosperity in home countries, replacing traditional aid.
(NEW YORK) – A new study proposes an "Alternative Hegemony Model" [AH Model] to fight the root causes of migration.
The AH Model aims to change capitalism into a "value market economy" by promoting sustainable technologies and rewarding good behavior.
Key Components of the AH Model
Researchers explored this new model to tackle migration causes, specifically in Tunisia. The study describes:
- Creation of an AH Fund: Established and financed by states that comply with minimum standards.
- Fund's Purpose:
- Support research and development of sustainable technologies.
- Partner with companies.
- License product designs.
Tunisia: A Case Study
Tunisia, with its 11.2 million people, faces tough challenges:
- Economy: Approximately $3,700 per person each year.
- Unemployment: A high 30 percent of university graduates are jobless.
The AH Model offers a way to create new opportunities and improve the economy in such regions.
The Model of Alternative Hegemony therefore opens up new perspectives. It does not stand for development aid, which too often seeps into corrupt hands, nor does it represent help for temporary self-help, but rather it is a ticket for a joint cruise, which should end on the island of prosperity.
This model could:
- Create an "elite"—a group of highly skilled people.
- Boost sustainable technologies.
- Improve the country's economy generally.
The study suggests the model could help countries like Tunisia achieve sustainable growth, reduce unemployment, and lessen the pressure for people to migrate.
Challenges and Future Steps
However, the study notes that Tunisia does not yet meet the necessary standards for the AH Fund, pointing to issues like corruption and human rights. Future work will need to address these issues to make the AH Model a reality.
This approach offers a fresh path, moving beyond old solutions to build lasting prosperity where it's needed most.
